At the inauguration of His ministry, Jesus proclaimed that He came to heal, free us from captivity, and liberate us from oppression (1). Later, Jesus explicitly tells us that He desires that we exchange our burdens and labor for His rest (2). Yet the world, self, and the myriad of systems around us point out our inadequacies and failures and tell us relief is found in striving, works, and guilt.
